Blades is an Autobot with the role of Air Support who acts as a street fighter with the motto: "War's a dirty game -- and I'm a dirty player!" (according to his Tech Spec). He is one of the five Protectobots (along with the other four Protectobots: First Aid, Hot Spot, Groove and Streetwise) that combine to form the Super Warrior Defensor acting as a leg or arm. The Protectobots are named so because they each transform into Emergency vehicles, in this case the alternate mode for Blades is a rescue helicopter.

The Generation 1 Blades was available individually in 1986 and was also available in the Defensor gift set during the same year.
