Waverider is an Autobot with the role of Naval Warfare who transforms between his robot mode and his sea vehicle mode.  He belongs to the group called Pretenders because he (as well as the other Autobot Pretenders) disguises his robot form inside a shell resembling an Earth being, in this case a human shell. 

Even though he is a great warrior Waverider would rather explore the ocean than fight in a battle (according to his Tech Spec).

The Generation 1 Waverider was released in 1988.
